Getting All Inked in Sin City
Hitting the tattoo jackpot in Las Vegas

Nowadays, Las Vegas could give New York a good run for its money as The City That Never Sleeps. Pretty much every corner, nook, and cranny of Sin City is home to something wild, mystical, and ultimately entertaining. For the past five years, Mario Barth has presented and organized the Biggest Tattoo Show on Earth, recognized as the “world’s largest tattoo convention” by none other than the Guinness World Records – and that was just in its first year back in 2009. The BTSOE regularly brings together more than 40,000 tattoo artists, celebrities, and body art enthusiasts every year in world-class venues like the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and the Mirage. This year’s BTSOE will take place on September 19 at Caesar’s Palace, and the event already has a venue for 2015 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Of course, the BTSOE has always featured a strong lineup of female tattoo artists. Moni Marino, Amy Patterson, Jade Pinto, Audrey Maher, Reanna Wray, Shellisa Marcum, Kristin Chirco, Mary Walker, and Marie Makowski are just some of the women who have participated in the BTSOE. It’s not too surprising to learn of this link between tattoos and Las Vegas. The Hart and Huntington Tattoo Company’s flagship store can be found inside the world-famous Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Founded by former freestyle motocross rider Carey Hart, the franchise is home to a talented group of tattoo artists. Five months after she started tattooing full time in April 2011, Jaclyn Greb became a part of the Hart and Huntington family, where she still works to this day.

The connection between tattoos and casinos has even bled over into the online casino realm. A slot machine app on the iTunes App Store called Mega Tattoo Slot Machine lets players try and match tattoo symbols on the iconic 5 reels of a slot machine, with true-to-life matching casino sound effects and HD graphics. Proving to be quite popular, the app has even introduced a Wheel of Fortune bonus game, similar to the Wheel of Fortune-themed game on Bubble Bonus Bingo. Other efforts to introduce tattoo elements to casino games include the iconic “Hot Ink” slot game, which also features a wide range of iconic images like flaming dice, koi fish, and eight-ball cherries.
